How to play MP3 files Consecutively

I want to play my MP3 music tracks in the order that I have saved them in the Folder. I do not want them played as a shuffle or random selection.

I thought it was possible with VLC. I have gone to ‘View’, open ‘Playlist’ dragged the Folder in, then right clicked and select ???? I think I have tried all the obvious Options but whatever I have selected, the individual tracks are still played in some kind of random order. Can anyone please advise?

My MP3 albums are all in their own individual folder, named, like,

01 Track Name
02 Track Name, etc etc. (I have also added a dash between the Track Number and Title but that did not make any difference)

On this basis, if I try to listen to an MP3 Audiobook with individual chapters it seems I am likely to hear how the story ends before I have heard the beginning.

Am I doing something wrong or is not possible to play them in Sequential Order?

In the playlist window, right click on the columns title bar and add Track Number or ID to the columns then sort by this column.

Sorry, I’ve right clicked but cannot see any ‘Columns Title Bar'.

I right click and get the Options in which PLAY is at the top. Lower down is the SORT BY option, but I cannot see any Columns Title option.

I mean the bar where are displayed the titles of the columns (shown in red on the pic), right click on it and the selection menu of columns will appear:

Thankyou again. I did, in the end, find that ‘Title Bar’ and added Track Number.

I have also created a Test Folder with just six tracks and have been experimenting with the music in this folder. I have though lost count of the number of attempts I have had so far. Think I have cracked it, try again and am back to the beginning.

At least I must say thankyou for your help. Not there yet but I know where I should now focus.

Still seems to be a bit of ‘Hit and Miss’.

I have renumbered the tracks from 11 – 16 instead of 1 – 6 to see if that would help, and also tried both with the dash and without it, between the Track Number and the Song Title. (I had transferred the first six MP3 tracks within a Folder to create a Test Folder.) I did actually get VLC to play twice in a row the Music Folder in the correct order, thought I had cracked it, but then with the third attempt and it selected the fourth track to play first, so am still trying.

After each attempt I am closing down VLC and re-opening to try again so assume none of any previous settings are still retained.

I might have found my answer, although, to me seems to be somewhat odd conclusion and will continue to test!

Trying to resolve my Issue, I had put six tracks in a Folder, and then re-numbered them 11 – 16.
I then transferred the Folder into VLC, and selected ‘Track Number – Descending’ (although I want the order of play to start from Track 11.) First attempt and the first track played was No 11, correct. However my next three attempts each time played a completely different track and each time different, so was back to Square One.

Early days for me and then what happened could be complete co-incidence. I used the open source Cleaning program, Bleachbit, and just ticked Memory Dump in VLC and ran the program. Re-opened VLC and the first track played was Track 11. However it seems that if I want to continue and play another Folder of Music, in order, then I have to run Memory Dump in Bleachbit first.

One other odd thing I have experienced is that I have to click ‘Playlist’ twice before that window opens.
