VLC will play stream but not stream to file

Hi everyone,

Can anyone explain what is happening here - this stream will play in VLC just fine, but will not 'Stream to File'.

To reproduce - File -> Open Source -> Network -> Paste Link -> Open - stream plays just fine
Repeat and click 'Stream output' -> enter a file name -> Encapsulation mp4v, enable video and set to mp4v, enable audio and set to mp4a.
Now VLC shows the error box "Streaming/transcoding failed. VLC could not open the mp4v video encoder". The audio is streamed to the file, however.

This is very strange as I have repeated this process many times for similar streams and never had this problem. Any help gratefully received.

After more investigation I have found other downloaders are able to download this stream, including Chrome plugins, so there is something odd with VLC and this is now an academic exercise to understand what is going on.
