Grabbing a video from YouTube

A while back I was given these instructions, to use VLC to rip a video from YouTube:
1. Open VLC
2. Media-->Open Network Stream
3. Paste YouTube video URL; it will open the video
4. Tools-->Codec Information
5. Copy the long URL at the bottom (Location), paste it into a browser
6. Right-click; Save video URL
Voila!
This usually works for me, but I'm trying to grab this video here, a nostalgia clip to feature at our upcoming 20th anniversary show, and it's not working for some reason.

Even at step 2, VLC never opens the video. Is it because this clip is so old? Have these instructions changes or am I missing something else here?
Thanks!
