Transparent MOV files displaying wrong colours in VLC

Postby DamienKarras73 » 03 Apr 2023 18:57

Hi all,

I've recently made the move to video editing, and the shows I'm producing require lower thirds for each speaker. For this purpose, we make up lower thirds/L3s as MOV files with transparency. What's strange, however, is that if I open any MOV with transparency in VLC or view it in Reaper, it displays the incorrect colours.

However, if my colleagues view the L3 MOV into their own versions of VLC, or even if I just view the file in Google Drive, the colours display correctly, as seen here.

I'm working off of the latest version of Windows 10, and have VLC and Reaper fully up-to-date as well. What about the transparency is affecting the colour palette, whether I'm editing or just viewing the file on my hard drive? This seems to only affect transparent MOV files, since if I pull up a MOV file with no transparent elements the colours display correctly.

I can say I've tried the following troubleshooting options in VLC:

- updating to the latest version

- ensuring all video filters are unchecked

- trying every Video Output Module

- trying all settings for Hardware-accelerated decoding

Any and all help is appreciated!

if my colleagues view the L3 MOV into their own versions of VLC ... the colours display correctly.

Reset the preferences (the manual way) and try again:
