Error when trying to convert TS to MP4

Ive been trying to convert a video in TS format to MP4 in order to be able to add subtitles. However I keep encountering an error message saying that VLC cant open the file, which is weird because VLC actually does play the video just fine when clicking it.

I will provide any additional info about my system if needed.
I dont know whether this is windows specific so thats why I put it into general.
