VLC 3.0.18

Hello,

As you might have seen, VLC 3.0.18 is now out.

I also activated the updates on Windows (win32 and win64) and on macOS (intel and arm).

As many of you complained, I never activated the updates for 3.0.17, because 3.0.17 release was a mess, where we had to have at least 3 minor versions to get a final one.
So, many people are still on 3.0.16, and will upgrade directly to 3.0.18.

3.0.18 and 3.0.17 are minor releases, but they fix a large number of issues and they update the codecs libraries inside VLC. And, of course, fixes minor security issues.

There are a few more filetypes that we support and fixes for regressions.

We hope to release 3.0.19 only when needed. :)

Sorry for the mess.

Are there plans to update the Win32/Win64 store versions as well? I installed VLC from the Microsoft Store (non UWP version) yesterday but still got 3.0.16

That is referring to the now discontinued UWP version

There are 2 versions published in the store, the UWP and the regular/classic Win32 version

Hello there! :)

Today I tried to file a bug in VLC's GitLab repository, created a GitLab account for this purpose but it repetedly refuses my login credentials.
There is a problem with VLC since 3.0.18. I read its release notes which stated that you've fixed .flac files playback. But actually since 3.0.18 VLC has problematic playback on many .flac files - it often produces a ragging of the sound or sudden short moment of silence during a playback. I can upload .flac files for testing somewhere if you want.
I am running openSUSE Leap 15.4, VLC is currently installed from PackMan repository but I tried 3.0.18 from VLC's official repository and it had the same problem.
This issue did not occured on 3.0.17.

Wish you happy holidays! :)

Found bug with crop. In 3.0.17 it's correct but in 3.0.18 video playback disproportionately I roll back to 3.0.17

You should create a new report ticket on the VLC Trac with your above report:

I have the same question, when I download the app from the store, the version is: 3.0.16

When it gets updated to 3.0.18?

Same question here - keeping VLC up to date for an enterprise deployment via Intune and hoping that updates to the Windows Store (Win32) version will make life much easier for us.

I've just tried installing from the store today and got 3.0.16 more than 3 weeks after 3.0.18 was released. Endpoint security software is picking up the older version as an unpatched vulernability.

Yes that is exactly the same reason I ask. Microsoft Defender for Endpoint gives a security recommendation to update to 3.0.18

Hello. I just downgraded to VLC 3.0.16 because since 3.0.18 (or 3.0.17 if I missed this version, idk) it is now impossible (when you are in full screen) to move the playbar outside the VLC window. (to place it on another screen or to make it hyper minimalist by hiding a part of it like this https://imgur.com/9DQlHCw).
I may be the only one concerned, but this is one of the things that really made me love and use VLC, and now it's not possible anymore. Is there an setting I missed to restore the freedom to move the playbar anywhere? And if not, would it be possible to add this option in a future update?

Thanks a lot

Thank god there's an official explanation (finally). I was losing my mind on why I didn't receive any updates in 16 months :-|
