Copy from VHS tape to PC

I'm new to VLC so apologies for something which might be obvious; I have VHS tapes with family videos on them. They were added at different times from a camcorder so many video clips on each tape. My problem is VLC doesn't copy all of the VHS tape only the first section? Do I have to do something with the 'title' and 'chapter' options?? I wouldn't know how many video clips were on any one particular tape without running them all through first. Any hints or tips appreciated
Thanks PG

I've got this completely wrong and confused!! Copying VHS tapes is another issue I have with a VHS to PC device. The issue I have with VLC is copying DVD's ( originally from VHS tapes ) to a PC with the above problem where it is only copying part of the disc. I'm using OS windows 10 via the optical drive on my PC to an external hard drive.

Try with a nightly build:

But ripping might be easier with Handbrake:
