Optional components in installation (ActiveX and Firefox Plugins)

Hey!

Apologies in advance if this is not the place to ask. I am a bit thick and could not find the information I required in the wiki nor through the forum's search feature. I wanted to ask what are the optional plugins during installation. The ActiveX plugin and the Firefox plugin. The only thing I found in my searches was something regarding ActiveX being deprecated and only used in Microsoft's browsers and something about Firefox plugin not working exactly as intended post Firefox 60. Is this the case? The information I found regarding the topic is scarce and vague so I couldn't get my head around it and wanted to ask before installing VLC.

Thanks in advances for the help, people of the forum.
Cheers!

These technologies are outdated and deprecated, no one should use them anymore.
