How to playback backwards frame by frame?

I realize this question has been asked before, last time seven years ago, but the answers are not reasonable, not in 2022 and not back then. When there are 248 frames between I-frames it is possible to save RAM while speedup with a compromise of a buffer. Let's say 16 frames are saved between I-frames. That's not more than 132MB with 2k. For each frame, the worst case will be 15 frames to re-calculate. Without buffering it's no more than 2GB for full HD or four times that for 4k. Those who don't have enough RAM, well, won't be able to use backward playback. I find it really strange this functionality has been added long ago. Are there only amateurs left with vlc nowadays? Isn't it embarrassing that vlc can't do what vhs could forty years ago?

VHS was effectively full intra so comparing apples and oranges there. It's really embarrassing to publish such dumb comparison, if you ask me.
