Unable to update the VLC software

Hi
Im unable to update the VLC software (still stuck in version 3.0.12). Every time I click on the update button, a 39 MB file is downloaded. Then im requested to install the update, and nothing happens when I click the install button.
Please advise on how to solve this issue other than installing the latest version from the website
