BluRay: Playback issue when m2ts has ohter durations like in playlists

Postby freak_playa » 01 Jan 2022 22:59

Hello Everyone,

i found a strange behaviour in VLC 3.0.16 in combination with libbluray while playing a bluray file.
I think the issue is not specific the application VLC, more the library libbluray that makes my issue.
The issue comes when a .m2ts file has a longer duration than set in some .mpls playlists.

How did i find this issue?

I have a bluray, where a .m2ts file (only a black screen with no audio) is used to create a gap between m2ts files (between information-texts, comercials, episodes, etc). This .m2ts file has a duration of 50sec. But in those playlists only the first or the first 2 seconds of this m2ts file are used.
A normal bluray-player can play those playlist without any problems but with libbluray in vlc, the VLC-Player stucks at the beginning of this m2ts file. It is not possible to skip this specific Track or seek some seconds, etc.

Is this strange behaviour known??

What is VLC doing??
The Application plays the first Tracks normely, but when it plays a Track with a .mpls Playlist which contains this special m2ts file, VLC plays this track to the point, where the m2ts file starts and the Video and the cursor stuck imidiatly. (the cursor is more buggy, jumps around this point)

I found a Workaround to fix this Problem in the Bluray files but i think this should be fixed in the code?

The issue is OS independent. It comes with linux and with windows.

I use the libbluray version 1.3.0

does anyone also reconized this special behavior with the newes VLC and libbluray version?

Also does anyone know, how libbluray determines the current playback time and communicates this to applications?
The Playback time from the mpls playlist seems to match the timestamp within vlc. But could it be that VLC or libbluray trys to play the full m2ts duration and stuck at this point??

You should create a new ticket on the VLC Trac with your above report and the link to this thread:
