Multicast - Traffic Analysis

Postby sgopis69 » 26 Jun 2021 04:06

Hi,

I' m using VLC for multicast.

My multicast address is 239.255.0.1.

What I have observed is that VLC is ending multicast
Ethernet frames rignt from the 1st frame.

Is that correct behavior ?.

I suppose, the multicast source should use default router
and send the packets to that router. The router then understands
its a multicast packet and then do multicast routing (even for local LAN).

Please clarify.

Thanks,
S.Gopinath

Multicast TTL is 1 by default. This is by OS design.
