MKV chapters switching too quickly

I noticed this issue while watching certain anime releases. The releases have the opening and ending credits stripped out into their own mkvs, and when you play the main episode mkv file it'll play the OP because of chaptering or linking or whatever. This works fine, but the issue is that when VLC switches to or from these other files it cuts off the previous part a little too quickly, only a moment or so, sometimes cutting off the end of a sentence or the last bit of music. Turning off respect ordered chapters, stopping it from jumping to the OP, shows that those clipped parts are actually there in the video, so is there any options tweaking I can do to fix this?
