App Refresh/Scan every time I open VLC

MacOS Mojave 10.14.6
VLC 3.0.11.1
Synology NAS Server - about 2000 movies
For the past few updates, every time I close and re-open VLC, it seems to spin my drives for 5-10 minutes doing some sort of refresh/scan?
Never used to happen before.. I used to just peacefully open.
Does anybody know anything about this? Very annoying..
