Drive Scanning opening VLC ?

Some Questions/issues:
I have a fairly large Video Library with various formats connected to a Synolgy server.
Over the past few releases, VLC seems to be doing a long ‘drive scan’ every time I open VLC and it is a bit concerning since I spins the drives for about 10 minutes everytime. This never used to happen before. It also is not some ‘some’ of the titles as it used to and now just displays some ‘blank’ titles unlike before…
I don’t see anywhere to activate or disable drive scanning upon opening VLC (if that is what is even happening..)
Also the ‘Media Information’ just shows blank info for everything as opposed to before where it showed ‘some’ info.
I do happen to be on a Mac, but thought this might be a universal issue..
(Let me know if this should be in the ‘macOS’ category instead)
Please help, explain, or give me any input you can..
Thanks
