Is there a way to make VLC display cover art for individual files?

Is there a way to have VLC display cover art for individual files rather than one piece of art for the whole folder? There are two cases this would be useful:
1. I have albums with tracks that have their own unique artwork,
2. If I compile a collection of random favorites into one folder, and some of those tracks have no art, they won't adopt whatever art happens to be the dominant art in that folder.

Embed the covers inside the files.
I guess it should give the priority to embedded covers over folder covers, or at least it should work like that.

For mass tagging, you can use Mp3tag (Windows) or Kid3 (Cross-platform).

I already have each file tagged with its own album art. It's just that VLC picks the first one I play and uses that art for all of the files from that folder within the player. I want to prevent that.

Interesting find which looks like a bug, you should create a new ticket on the VLC Trac with the link to this thread:
https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/

Please provide full information about your system, OS and VLC version.

Before I proceed with this, is what I'm experiencing not intended? I looked through the AppData > Roaming > vlc > art > artistalbum directory and it seems the program categorizes art first by the artist and then by the albums under the artist, and whatever art file is in that artist-album folder is what will be used for any track with that same artist and album combination. The problem comes when unique art files happen to share the same artist and album. The artist-album folder can only register one .png or .jpg at a time. You see where I'm coming from?
