Sound Out

Hi. I'm new around these parts, so please excuse me when I get confused. I'm running Linux Mint 20. When I go to a site like youtube, I can play all I want and get sound. However, when I try to play anything on my VLC Media Player, I get no sound. Interestingly, when I open the app, the sound meter bar is white. If I adjust it to any percentage of sound i still won't play. Any ideas? HELP!
