VLC 3.0.10 DVD Video Play Problem

Postby PokeNirvash » 14 May 2020 03:41

Hello all,

I have the most recent version of VLC, which I often use to play DVDs on my computer. (It's a laptop with a built-in DVD driver that originally had Windows 8 but has a new hard drive that runs Windows 10; just something to explain the situation.) I tried playing a disc for a DVD I purchased earlier tonight, only to be met with an interesting problem.

When I open the disc inserted in VLC, it takes me to the menu as usual. However, whenever I select the option to play an episode, the audio for the episode plays, but the video does not; it remains frozen on the menu image. I've tried to circumvent this issue by opening the specific episode's file from the File Explorer. While that allows the video to play as it should, I am unable to activate the subtitle track (which is important when you're watching a sub-only anime release). I think that specific issue is more related to opening the file through File Explorer than through VLC.

I'm currently planning on playing the disc on a proper DVD/BD player to see if the issue is with the disc (which I doubt it is), but before I do, if the problem - menu image frozen on-screen as episode audio plays accordingly - is specifically VLC-related, what steps should I take to solve this situation, or at least avoid this situation in the future?
