I have tried everything i can think of but when i try to convert a file from a stream or from my desktop, it creates a file that is 0bytes. any insight would be appreciated version 3.0.8. windows 10.
it creates a 0 byte file and then plays the video that i am trying to convert. i have also tried to convert to different formats. same results. no messages under "messages"

thanks in advance for any insight

If there are no messages, then it won't result in 0 bytes, but in no file. Check the logs.

i already said that there were no messages. I have set verbosity to 2(debug),still not a single word appears in the message log.

I already said that if there are no messages, then it's doing nothing, and a file would not be created at all.

Nobody can help without infos to help with.

Hi, I guess you're trying to convert youtube video, but in any case it is the same situation.

Unfortunately, the http://youtube link itself isn't the video, but lua extensions are converting it into a new item list (here, one item) but output nothing, so the conversion takes 0 bytes. Then, because you have the new item in your playlist, it's played.

Can you try playing your item, then right-click on it and save/convert ?

I get the same problem - a 0 byte mp3 file.

Using convert/save results in a file of 0 bytes and no log entry and no error message. ... I am also on windows 10.
I have tried converting an audio DVD and also file. both with the same result.

Edit:
I get this error if I play the file that is created by the record button:

Unidentified codec:
VLC could not identify the audio or video codec

i.e. I play an audio dvd. Hit the red record button. Stop recording. Open the file "vlc-record-2021-03-20-10h46m33s-Audio CD - Track 01-.wav" with VLC.
Then I get the above error. ... but the thing is, VLC is able to play the audio DVD correctly.

Hey, I might have a solution for this problem, when you first time load video via link and it starts playing click ctrl+j for viewing codec and copy the codec address, then when you convert the video past CODEC address NOT url, sometimes this bugs out and you gotta do it for second time but should work. I hope it help ill also post this answer to two or three different threads with same question
