mirrored and distorted screen with dvds

When I play dvds the bottom of the display is cut off and the bottom is instead a mirrored portion of the display that shows up with a lot of distortion and pixelation. It's had to describe what it looks like. I'm using windows 10 and just updated to the newest vlc to see if it would resolve itself. Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks!
