image duration setting does nothing?

image duration setting does nothing?

Postby wahnsinn » 02 Apr 2019 20:55

It seems no matter what I do, jpgs only display for 1 second.

I've tried:
1.

Code: Select all

<vlc:option>image-duration=6</vlc:option>
in an xspf playlist

and 2.
change the 'duration in seconds' setting for the image demuxer to 30
(although note that it was already set at 10 for me to begin with - so clearly this setting is ignored either way)

I'm using 3.0.6 Vetinari; has anything changed in this (or any) version? (Note that I've never tried this before, but from the forum posts I've seen, others have used the above methods with success in years past).

Either way, how do I get the intended result: slideshow with a duration of several seconds for each image with this current version?

That should be correct, though.

Ditto... Same problem. Running a list and 1/2 go the 10 sec. half goes 1 sec.
And nothing I can do seems to effect.

I think it is some kind of issue with the file...

All my images was from facebook.
smaller files and or funny size?

Ok I think I got it.
Try this..
Edit one of your images and resave.
In my case I was trying to use images from Facebook.
Some of the images was little better than icon size and grade.
Which Vlc seems to have a problem with.
I think is a bug since it display proper for but just for 1 sec.
Editing the image and saving to a larger format stopped the 1 sec image show.
Now to edit the ones I need and trash the rest.
Anyone know how to report a bug?
I could send example files and everything....

hmm, i have no interest in re-saving my images though.. they're perfectly alright and do not need additional artifacts.

That said, Mr Kempf's response got me thinking that something must be wrong with my installation. Then I finally remembered that I was actually using a copy of "VLC Portable" rather than the regular one. d'oh.

So, I installed the regular - and in there it worked right away with the default value of 10seconds. Also, changing to 5 seconds worked.

Interestingly, having done that it now ALSO worked on the portable copy. Even more interestingly, it KEPT working even after uninstalling the regular version.

So, I have to assume that "portable" still requires some setting somewhere, whether registry or otherwise, for this particular component to work properly. But then I guess that portable issues don't really belong here anyway.

Do not use the Portable version of VLC.
