VLC unable to display wide pictures

Postby ghe2019 » 08 Mar 2019 03:55

Just installed VLC 3.0.6 on both Ubuntu 18.04.2 and Windows 10. And I found that VLC is unable to display two of my pictures. Both pictures are very wide pictures, one has HxW of 9420x12360, and the other has 2938x13632.

Is there a known size limit?

I have two pictures in the directory: A.jpg (WxH = 12360x9420) and B.jpg (13632x2938). When A is double clicked in vlc, vlc tries first, after failing doing anything, vlc go straight to B.jpg. When B is double clicked in vlc, vlc shows a thumbnail on the lower left corner, then shows a progress bar for 10 seconds and stops.

Here is the debug message on A.jpg https://pastebin.com/h2esgxJa

Here is the debug message on B.jpg https://pastebin.com/s64ZvzpX

The messages were generated with VLC 3.0.6 on Ubuntu 18.04.2.

Is it possible to increase the size limit in the future? Or at least, display a message when picture is over the size limit.

I am having issues with jpegs of resolution 3464 x 2309, which are not beyond the 8K limit, this is with the latest Raspbian release for the Pi 3B+. Please see my other post https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 01#p534301. Would be grateful for some guidance on its resolution.
