I haven't the foggiest clue what happened but one day my player just "changed" and now there are random sections with weird characters. When I open a video for example I'll see Media, Playback (Random symbols, Random symbols, Subtitles, Tools, View, Random symbol. Edit: Also is there a way I can set it so it doesn't create it own playlists or constantly resize the player?

for the weird characters, can you try to reset your preferences? tool > preferences > reset preferences
for the resizes of the player, you can disable 'resize to video size' in tool > preferences > interface
