I use vlc to open folders with sub-folders with many video files and some others are not for example, a rar file with over hundred thousand files in it vlc tries to decode every file of them which makes it not responding

- I'd like to know how to make vlc ignore rar files or any non-video file.

thanks in advance

You can add rar to the list of ignored extensions in the advanced preferences. But ignoring "non-video" files sounds like a chicken-and-egg situation.

Yes, I see your point with the ignored extensions it should be more than enough for most situations.
