Backing Up Settings , Also Disable Some Functions ?

I have a few computers and new to VLC. I have configured VLC to how I want it and have read elsewhere that to backup the settings etc to backup the vlcrc file. I use a rival player for most things and only want to use vlc player for .webm files that my existing player that cannot be updated cannot play.

I am overwhelmed with the abilities of the vlc player and I am not interested in most of them. Is their a way to make the player more user friendly and "trim"some of its features ?

I also don't like the fact that on occasions the program trys to connect to the internet and Windows firewall kicks in asking me to allow it to access the internet which I decline.

As the files that I want it to play are on my computer I do not want it to connect to the internet and I am wondering if their are some settings that can be changed.

Can a regular user of vlc comment please ?
