Dear VideoLAN users,

The VideoLAN team is happy to announce the final version of VLC 0.8.4.

* Mac OS X interface:
- new dialogs (wizard, extended controls, bookmarks)
- drag and drop in playlist
* Skins interface:
- Partial support for tree playlist

- CGI handling, you can now use external programs from VLC's web server
(like PHP for instance)
- Much richer controls
* Linux binary codecs loader. Now able to read WMV3 under Linux.
* UPnP service discovery
* Bonjour (Apple zeroconf protocol) service discovery
* Shoutcast output module to forward streams to icecast servers
* enhanced H.264 support

The uninstaller didn't work in the first windows installer we uploaded. The new installer (dated 2005-11-26 19:41) works fine.

UPNP for Win32 -- Not Found

I looked in Play Lists | Discovery but didn't see UPNP listed. Should I be looking elsewhere or isn't UPNP discovery available for win32?

If it isn't is there any feel for when it might be?

Thanks

@heffeque

Did you try resetting VLC? There is an entry in you Start Menu that allows you to do a full reset of VLC.

The problem was another, it's just one setting that it has a problem with. When you use http interface automatic opening to port 80, if you open the settings it detects that 80 is already used and put 81 as default, and I wanted it as 80. You should check that out.

My temporary solution is to change the port manualy to 80 each time I mess with the configuration, since that's not very often it doesn't bother me too much.

I've just tried the 0.8.4b version and it works ok. The same bug that I mentioned, but no major problems whatsoever.

what is the MD5?

Can you please post MD5SUMs on your website for all of your mirrored downloads?

md5sums are available on all the mirrors, those on ftp://ftp.videolan.org are the original ones hosted on the master ftp server.

VLC for Mac OS X release 0.84

Hello,

Thanks for delivering a new enhanced version of this great software.

I found 2 glitches:
- if PNG is the selected format for Video snapshot, VLC warns it cannot recognize the format and the file created is unreadable
- I never quite understand how to copy one chapter of a dvd in the right language as a standalone Quicktime file (for personal use, yes) when selecting the Export Wizard or the Open Disc/Advanced Output. Is there any doc somewhere for this sensitive matter ?

Thx,
alan

1) that's a known issue which will be fixed in the next release and already is in our current nightly builds.

2) don't use VLC, but HandBrake. It is really easy to use, features a better quality and plus it is written by a VLC developer ;)
