I have HP Pavilion notebooks with Win 8.1 installed. I need to use them for video/audio capture from built-in camera and microphone. I don't want to use built in programs for this purpose, as they have some restrictions, such as limited record time and I need direct capture to file feature in order to have potentially unlimited record time. I wanted to try VLC for this purpose, but I have two problems with it.
1) Audio visualizers work, when I use Media->Open Capture Device and use Playback->Record, but don't work, when I use Convert/Save and I need to see, if something is actually being recorded, and Playback->Record also doesn't allow me to set any recording parameters, such as destination audio file and it's format.
2) When I use Media->Open Capture Device and just pick default DirectShow devices and then press Playback->Record - video is recorded, as it should, but I can't control this process - i.e. pick destination file or it's format. I guess, it doesn't have any compression at all, as it's size is very large. But when I use Convert/Save with any parameters, including default - destination file has audio track only, i.e. no video is recorded.
In short: Open+Record works properly, but doesn't give me any control and Convert/Save gives me full control, but doesn't work properly.
How can I solve this problems?
