Unable to play certain files

Postby hugson » 03 Apr 2018 05:00

I run Windows 7 Professional with the latest version of VLC (v3.0.0. Vetinari). I don't believe the problem described below is contributed to by Windows.

I use get_iplayer to download programs from the BBC to watch later. For several months I have chosen to download files in .ts format without conversion to .mp4. This has worked very well.
Recently a new version of get_iplayer was released. Using this new version I am able to download .ts files as before. And, as before, I can load and view them using VideoRedo TVSuite or Windows Media Player, and also play them using my BeyonWiz PVR directly to my "Smart" TV. But I can no longer play them with VLC.

When I attempt to play them in VLC. the progress bar at the bottom of the screen flashes a smaller yellow block that moves continuously across the progress bar, both from left to right and from right to left. CPU usage shows between 1% and 25%.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this behaviour, and how to solve the problem?

Problem solved! I was requesting subtitles, and VLC is unable to cope with subtitle files containing font or colour directives.
