[solved] 15:9 aka 5:3 without cropping?

Hello,

(Apology if this has been asked before and I missed the right bait for the search function.)

I want to play 1280 x 768 videos on a 1024 x 576 screen (that equals 15:9 [=5:3] on 16:9, or 1.6666 on 1,7777), but without distortion or cropping.
How can I do this in VLC? Black bars are not a problem, I just want the full image, to, say, see the evildoers sneak in from the side a little earlier...
Using VLC's "5:3" cropping leaves the image undistorted but, well, crops, and in the aspect ratios there is no "5:3" or "15:9" available.

How can this be done? Modifying hidden settings? Preference files?

Thanks for help,
S

VLC 2.2.8 or 3.0.0
macOS 10.12.6

EDIT: marked as solved

In VLC for Windows (Qt GUI) there is "Custom aspect ratios list" option in advanced preferences.
Tools > Preferences > Show settings = All > Video: Custom aspect ratios list [5:3]
Is there similar option in VLC for macOS?

There is, and it works. Thank you so much!

How to find on a Mac: Menu "VLC" > "Preferences" (or just type command+comma) > button "Show all"* > "Video" > heading "Window properties"* > subheading "Automatic Video Scaling"*

*or something alike, I'm running a localized version

Entering the native pixel count (here: "1280:768") works also (on VLC 3.0.0)

@developers: Great job, ! :-))
