Is there a way to open nodes in VLC without playing media?

I often construct playlists in VLC so I can watch my weekly TV shows, but if I have to open a folder in the VLC media menu it always plays the media inside automatically. This is a minor annoyance, and there might be a button I've missed in the settings, but I would love a fix to this. Thanks.
