Time Display with segments?

Postby ThePowerTool » 13 Dec 2017 20:05

Hi,

If I make a 1-hour video and want to have the time display notches at specific times (like to denote changes in content) is that possible? I know I can just break my video into 4 parts and have the files play separately but that doesn't allow me the control and simplicity I want when distributing my video.

I was hoping there was something similar to the subtitle markup where I could just put in the increments to display in the timeline.

Or is there another way to do this?

I tried searching on "time" but got almost 2000 pages of hits in VideoLAN forums. A pointer to the appropriate keyword would also be appreciate if that's what I am missing.

Thank you very much!

OK I have played and played with this but I don't see anything displayed. Additionally, it generated errors until I removed the "to". Am I missing something?

Don't use "to".
For the beginning: --start-time [sec]
For the end: --stop-time [sec]

And don't use brackets either.

I have tried this but do not see any change in the UI. From looking at the help it seems this only selects a specific segment of time to play and has nothing to do with updating the UI with new visual indicators. What am I missing?

I don't suppose there's anything useful in https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=99256, which didn't get me anywhere but Mederi made great efforts to help.

Hi and thank you for trying to help!

I researched the link you provided and marquee appears to only place text over the video.

I am looking to place the little markers in the play bar (that shows "chapter-position-time" in video) that look like tick marks.

Here is an example in an image showing the "tick-marks" on the play-bar:

And what are the "tick-marks" called?
