E-AC3 over SPDIF not working

Hi,

first of all, I know that SPDIF does not support E-AC3. So a stereo signal is sent by VLC.

But for example the Windows 10 Movies and TV app does indeed send the "original" Dolby track over SPDIF, minus the two extra channels.
MPC-HC also does it.

VLC however only does stereo.

Is there any way to fix this, also by external filters if necessary?
Thanks and regards

Well, I know about this.
What I want to know is why VLC is not capable of passing the regular 6 channels through, but only a downmix to stereo, when MPCHC and Windows Player do it. What's the big problem?

answer is in linked topic, assuming you waste some time to read to the end instead of wasting ours.
