When viewing lectures on VLC, video doesn't change often enough but audio is fine

I often watch downloaded lectures (from uni) on VLC, which means the video will be powerpoint with voice over from the lecturer
However, the video will get 'stuck' on one slide, when in actuality it should have moved onto the next slide. When I use the cursor to jump back or forward, the audio will change correctly but the video will remain stuck on the same slide. The video occasionally will change but not often.

VLC works fine for movies etc.

I've found it is working fine on windows media player

Thanks for any help!

I guess they are low FPS videos and VLC has troubles for playing very low FPS videos, it's a known issue awaiting for a fix.
