VLC opens more than one window

So my VLC started opening a new window if i tried to play another video. Before i would just open in the same window but now for some reason it started opening a second, third or fourth depending on how many i tried.
I did a google search to see if i could fix and many said to check the "allow only one instance" box. So i did. Many times. Still have the same problem with new window opening. Is it a bug in a new update or am i just completly ignorant about something i missed?

Is this not consistent based on the video file?
How many video tracks are listed in the Video menu?

You also need to tick "Use only one instance when started from file manager".

to Remi:
Hmm not sure what you mean. But as i'm watching a series i do believe that are all the same.
And there is only 1 listed in video track
to jayR:

Can you give something more to your problem?
What operating system and version of VLC do you work with?
How do you proceed to play a new video?
I work with the VLC version 2.2.4 and the OS Windows 10.
For the VLC, I have activated the two options "Allow only one instance" and "Use only one instance when started from file manager" in the simple interface settings.
Double-clicking on a video file in Windows Explorer opens an instance of the VLC and plays the video.
If I click on another video file, no new instance of the VLC is opened. Adds and plays the video to the first (and only) instance of the VLC.

I'm having the same problem. I go to tools and interface and click the use only one instance then save. Then when I go to add a file to the vlc play list, it still opens a new window. I have also clicked allow only one instance as well the enqueue items into playlist in one instance mode and still does the same thing

This happens for me too, upon installing the new version (2.2.4 Weatherwax) on a new computer.

I'm having this same exact issue on the latest version of VLC with "Allow only one instance" and "Use only one instance..." both checked, however it doesn't happen all the time...

same issue here, "use only one instance" is checked, but double-clicking on media files, opens a new VLC instance instead of playing the file in the current instance that's already open. issue is intermittent, sometimes it's fine, other times it keeps opening new instances for every file. it's very inconsistent.
