Multi-Device Playback Problem

Postby aahhaa » 26 Aug 2016 18:06

Hi Guys-
I don't think I have an OS-specific problem; because the same type of corrupted playback occurs on videos shot with a Panasonic Lumix FZ-7, a Canon ELPH 300 HS, and now a Motorola Droid Turbo. (The Turbo is mostly using Microsoft Hyperlapse for timelapse shots, so that one is app dependant.)

The version of VideoLAN is WeatherWax aka 2.2.4 and the problem is very similar from all devices- playback will initially be scrambled giant pixels or just gray, sometimes after a second the vid will play normally or usually stay gray. Audio is not usually affected, and this doesn't happen with every video shot, maybe 1 in 10 or so. I have a suspicion it may be triggered by visually complex scenes like a treeful of leaves blowing in strong gusts (and we just had tornados here  ).

I've used VLC for a while; on Win7, dual-boot Mint, and now trying it on my Droid. I've never tried the advanced features, but overall VLC on my older Acer laptop seems to play everything without problems- except my own videos.

One thing I was suspecting was that the mini-SD card in a full-size adapter might be the fault, but then the Droid started doing it too. Copying the file off the devices doesn't seem to make any difference to it's playability.

One last thing is that the ELPH & FZ-7 create .mov files, while the Droid makes .mp4 tho I thought those were the same pretty much.

I don't know what exactly is the matter, but I would also like to have some semi-pro editing software that will assemble my 'House of Cards' spoof.

Any advice appreciated, & thanks for reading this!
