Question in regards to video rendering

Hello,
First, I hope I am asking this in the right place.
I work with VDI workstations and have encountered an issue where the GUI for 2.x versions of VLC will not come up in a VDI session but the 1.x versions will. Could you tell me what is different in that respect from 1.x and 2.x?
