VLC color

Hi, very new to this so if in wrong thread please let me know,
Problem is that I have lost color in playback.
had a video playing that was very dark so i went into effects and changed brightness. but now cannot get it to go back to normal color spectrum,
and can't figure out what i did nor how to get it to return.
i did this on a 2.2.1 which i uninstalled then downloaded 2.2.2. and the same problem exists.
essentially hue doesn't work at all.
as my other view systems still have color i assume it is a vlc problem and not my computer.
