Can I save current VLC Settings?

Postby VLC.UserQuestions » 19 Mar 2016 10:11

Sorry guys, I know this is a general question. I searched the forums, could not find an answer specific to my question.......

The other day I Googled "how to set-up VLC for best playback with flv movies. I set my VLC options accordingly. Now some of my vids look/play well, and some don't.

Here is my question....

Is there a way to save my current VLC settings, then change my video options, save those settings, and revert back to what I had before so I can see which settings I like best?

Thanks in advance!

I don't think there is a simple method. If your setting is very complex, you can save using registry save tools or using system registry "restore" tools on Windows. But it won't be simple.

On Windows the settings are stored in %APPDATA%\vlc directory so you can backup the whole folder with its subfolders and restore it if needed.
vlcrc contains the main program settings and vlc-qt-interface.ini the interface settings.

Probably the only way to backup VLC settings is constantly copying the files or creating symbolic links of the directory to somewhere you keep your backup (e.g. a cloud backup directry or a second drive)
