Can I favorited a song?

Hi guys,
Hope that you are okay, I have been using for a while VLC for playing movies, but now that I have it as a main music player too, I would like to be able to favorite the songs I like while I'm listening them.......... simply tag it with some star or kind of simbol "+", or any other means, that just let me recognize what I liked when I played some particular disc.
I'm guessing that it might start by creating a play list, but I'm totally raw on this topic.
Is there anyone able to give me hint?, cheers
