An Error Occured While Checking For Updates (2-15-16)

For several years now I've seen this by going to HELP and then choosing "check updates" and I see this same dialog box. How come it's never been fixed or has it? I've updated to the latest 2.2.2 but it's still there.

It's working fine here.
Make sure VLC is fully allowed to access the internet. Check router and firewall settings.

Without logs, we can only guess - best guess is what Lotesdelere already wrote.
