How can one edit the metadata of a mp4 video?

I have an mp4 video and I would like to edit the metadata (like author, date, etc.), but I cannot seem to find a way to do it. I know on VLC, you can go to Tools-->Media Information to see the media data (metadata), but I am unable to edit it and save it. Does anyone know how to edit the media info (metadata)?

It's working fine for me with VLC 2.2.1 on Windows, with either an AAC audio only MP4 (MP42) and an H.264 video + AAC audio MP4 (ISOM).
I pause the file during the playback, I edit/add the metadata, I save it to the file and voilà, it's done.
The file needs to be stopped then played again for the metadata to be read.

Hi,
I tried that, but the "Encoded by:" section (after I erased it) comes back after I press the "save Metadata" button. Any ideas?

Some can't be saved yet, that is known.
