Lost in translation

Total newbie. Don't even know if this program is what I need. I researched video editors and this program was highly recommended. I need to create a DVD for a local bar that contains various instructional videos on country dancing that I have downloaded from YouTube. I would like to add sub titles with the song name and artist and some sort of transition from one video to the next. I would also like to be able to maintain the same audio volume throughout the presentation. I have searched through the forums, read the documentation and clicked on all the links, but I can't find any answers on how to do this. Is this a program that can do what I need and, if so, where do I find the instructions I need?

Appreciate anyone's help. This project needs to be done for next week so I am in a bit of a time crunch to get this done.
