Hardcoding subtitles to a video

Hello

I'm a pretty basic user of VLC but I have to hardcode some subtitles onto a video for the first time ever

I've configured the myriad of settings but the subtitles do not appear.

I'm pretty sure it is not a colour problem of white on white or a position problem as the title of the video appears clearly for a few seconds (red on white) but the subtitles do not appear next.

The subtitle file is an .srt and the timings are ok as it was produced using good software and I work with srt a lot.

So, rather than hunt for the proverbial needle in a haystack, I'd like to ask for help as to what is most likely to be the problem.

Thanks in advance

Hello Mederi

In the link, the asker wanted just to play the srt file with the video

I'm actually trying to hardcode it into the video

The srt file does display with the video which confirms it is ok but why can't I hardcode it onto the vide?

Thanks

Yes, the provided topic is about hardcoding subtitles. Please read the story and my posts there.

Hello Mederi

Thanks to your help, i've made some progress. It was probably "Delete "scodec=dvbs" that did the trick. How the f**k can we know that?

Anyway, just after a gave a little cry of joy, I saw that all my subtitles are appearing twice in the same window (duplicates)

Do you happen to know what might cause this please?

Thanks

VLC loads subtitle files automatically (similar file names in the same location), so you do not need to specify "[ ] Use a subtitle file" in "Open Media > File tab" dialog.
Now VLC renders all loaded subtitle tracks. Is it a bug?
