Setting a Relative Path for Snapshots

Hi all. I'm wondering if it is possible to set up a relative directory for snapshot outputs so that the snapshots are put in the same directory as the original video.
I've tried things like "./" and "/" as the directory, but VLC just stops taking snapshots. Thanks for any insight as to whether this is possible!
