Multi-channel volume control

Hi all,
I have recently switched from PC speaker set to external amp + speakers. I'm facing now the problem, which is quite a common one, that the input signal bypasses the dsp completely when it is getting input on the multi-channel connections, so I cannot change the channel volume individually, only the master volume. Is it possible to add extra gain to the LFE track (+center) somehow?
I would expect it to work the same way as the main volume setting in vlc which is independent of the OS volume control
Maybe with a third-party plugin?
