Subtitles change position when I crop the video to 16:9

Subtitles change position when I crop the video to 16:9

Postby MBotto » 28 Feb 2015 19:36

Hi there,
I have a 1366x768 screen, and whenever I watch a 1080p movie I usually crop the video to 16:9, in order to make the black bars on the top and bottom of the player disappear. But whenever I do that, the subtitles just move to the right a bit, as if they were following the crop itself. It came to my mind that this could probably be common to every VLC media player user, but first, there aren't many topics about the subject, and second, this doesn't happen with a relative's laptop, which has the exact same features and characteristics - when we crop the 1080p movies, the subtitles stay still. This also doesn't seem to happen with 720p movies, which adds to the oddness. I'd appreciate some help, as watching every full high definition movie with the subs slightly to the right makes it harder to capture the image itself. Here are the screenshots:

I can post them again, but what is it that's wrong about these ones?

EDIT: just did.

You mean the movie? If so, it happens to every single 1080p one, I just used "Dallas Buyers Club" as an example. But if you mean the subtitles, they're in .srt format and in ANSI enconding; I've tried changing it to UTF-8 or Unicode, but no change whatsoever. I can share it if you want to, though.
