Fail gracefully with unreachable default stream

I set up a default stream in vlc's preferences. I inputted the path incorrectly and now whenever I open VLC it continually tries to open the stream, fails, and lags out - it does this instantly too so I have no chance of fixing it. Please have this fail gracefully. It's ridiculous that I have to reinstall VLC to fix this.
