Mosaic with local video files

Hi,

I have 6 video (no audio) files (1.avi, 2.avi, etc.), and I want to play them simultaneously on a 2x3 mosaic. Each file has a resolution of 800x600, and I want them rescaled so that proportions are kept, with the rest of the screen (1920x1080) blacked out. Files have different time lengths: they should start simultaneously, and individually restart when they finish.

I understand there's a mosaic tool ( https://wiki.videolan.org/Mosaic/ ), but I can't make it work even for just two files. Could anybody provide a simple example / reference for such a situation? Thank you.
