Dual screens and cueing DVD's

Dual screens and cueing DVD's

Postby jessjess200 » 08 Feb 2015 07:34

Hi Everyone,

I operate the audio visual system at a small concert hall in Australia and I just have one question about DVD's. There is a projector in the roof that is conected to a laptop running windows 7 and I want to be able to cue up the DVD on the laptop screen and have it start playing fullscreen on the projector. Also if possible, at the end of the DVD somtimes i will need to move the DVD video off the projector and back onto the laptop screen so that the video will no longer be on the projector but the DVD will still be playing and therefore I can slowly fade the sound down. Ideally I just need a button that can make the DVD video switch between fullscreen on the projector and not full screen on the laptop.

At the moment I use the remote control for the projector to freeze the projector screen and just drag the video across to the projector, using a small tv screen i have set up next to the laptop so that I can see what I am doing on the second screen. I would rather not do this because:

1. It requires several steps and our not so tech savvy people cannot do it when I am not there
2. The professional presentation of the show soely relies on the one small projector remote
3. Sometimes I have trouble getting the remote to communicate with the projector and I have to hold it as high in the air as I can before it will freeze.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated as I am having real trouble finding a solution to this task which I thought would be relatively simple.

Thanks- Jess :)

You can separate video from the interface, and that could help you. And then, you can press f to get it in fullscreen.

But I agree, the setup is far from being the easiest in VLC.

Hi,

Yes I have managed to make the controls separate, which is a start. Now to cue the DVD I will have to have the play window on the laptop screen so I can see it and the audience can't so that means when I press f to go full screen it is going to go full screen on the laptop screen and not the projector. Is there a button or something that will make the play window go full screen on the projector instead if on the laptop screen (without dragging the play window to the projector first which looks very unprofessional) or if not could you recommend free software that could do what I am looking for?

Thanks- Jess

You can force it by using DIrectX output and definining the DirectX output device.
