update web player in Firefox

I have VLC 2.1.5 installed. The VLC player in Firefox is 2.1.3, which Firefox says is out of date. I reinstalled 2.1.5, but it did not update the web player. How can I update the web player?
If it makes a difference, I am on Windows 8.1.
